CDM CONSULTANTS IN BASINGSTOKE, BRACKNELL AND THE SOUTH OF ENGLAND | HSE ASBESTOS UPDATES

Recent findings show that almost half of tradespeople believe that a problem with asbestos is one associated with the past. Recent survey results also showed that 26% of participants have not followed the correct procedures when encountering asbestos. As CDM consultants, a revelation of this magnitude shows there is room for improvement.

The research, from independent training providers not affiliated to the HSE, has left M.L.A. with plenty of food for thought.

We can provide asbestos training to clients in the areas below:

Basingstoke | Bracknell | Guildford | Reading | Tunbridge Wells

M.L.A. also covers all surrounding counties and the UK.

It is important to note that having the right equipment in place is simply not enough without proper training. Nobody should attempt to work with asbestos blindly. Handling materials containing asbestos with no appropriate training is risky, and also against the law.

ASBESTOS | YOUR DUTIES

The HSE’s ASBESTOS - YOUR DUTY campaign encourages everyone to share campaign materials and help raise awareness about asbestos risks. The campaign now includes guidance on the duty to manage asbestos in WELSH. This resource, which features a downloadable PDF document, is designed to help stakeholders understand all legal responsibilities.

Resources are also available to help those with management duties.

SILICA IN STONE WORKING FOR WORKTOP INSTALLERS

The HSE has collaborated with the stone industry to produce guidance aimed at protecting installers of worktops. Cutting, polishing and chiselling stone, including engineered stone, can release stone dust containing respirable crystalline silica (RCS). Understandably, the inhalation of RCS poses serious health risks to a stone contractor.

The guidance outlines what employers and workforces must do to stay safe, and it focuses on three different areas:

  • Ensuring staff are competent and processes are effective
  • Taking the right precautions before installation
  • Implementing safer practices during onsite installations

VIDEO | FACE FIT RESPIRATOR DEMONSTRATOR (FFRED)

In partnership with the British Safety Industry Federation, the HSE has released a new version of the Face Fit Respirator Demonstrator (FFRED) video. The video covers tight-fitting respiratory protective equipment (RPE) and provides information for employers and workers.

This information includes:

  • Face-fit testing for disposable and reusable half-face masks
  • The importance of achieving a secure seal on the face
  • Potential risks to a user if the mask does not fit correctly

In the capacity of CDM consultants, M.L.A. can discuss any concerns you might have, or we can come to site to provide suitable training.

The HSE has also refreshed its guidance on fit-test basics for RPE, which now includes advice on the hygiene of face-fit equipment. The HSE acts as an enforcer of safe working practices across a range of trades and industries, regularly updating on its own activities.
